Buy in Bulk and close to the source is one of the best ways to save money and live thrifty.
Many food stores including the Piggley – Wiggly here in Orangeburg on Russell Street and Columbia Road have a bulk “Family Pack” that you can say money per pound.
Case In Point: When I was a little lad my father bought into this meat plan. We saved a lot of money but we also had to rent a temporary freezer locker and buy a new trunk freezer. We ate of the meat from the meat plan for over a year.
You can buy a whole steer by yourself or with others and you save more than you can at the store.
Bottom-line is if you can buy at the source and in bulk you can save money. This way is more labor intensive but if you want to live thriftier you going to have some trade off’s.
So if you can find a cattle ranch that butchers too or a meat packing house you should be able to save oodles of money.
If you like chicken, Columbia Farms is in West Columbia and you may be able to buy in bulk boxes. Let me know and let me know how you have save money and I may share it with my readers.
Till then,
I hope you all a Thrifty life that Yeshua/Jesus promised in John 10:10 if you have any questions or comments you and email me at wmsblog”AT”yahoo.com

It’s takes a community to truly live Thrifty.
It’s takes a community to truly live Thrifty.
A fellow blogger I watch his blogs wrote a piece about Stone soup. http://thehomelessguy.wordpress.com/2007/07/21/stone-soup/ I don’t know where he got the story but the bottom line is so true. If everybody helped each other we all can live thriftier and help each other from being homeless and poor.
Let me make this perfectly clear. I don’t mean make everyone share stuff for that is communism. But out of those who volunteer of their own free will give and help.
If you can join with others in your place of worship (church or synagogue), neighborhood, etc.; life will be so much better.

Having Fun Living Thrifty.
Having Fun Living Thrifty.
People think that if you live thrifty you have to live without and have no fun doing it, is so far from the truth.
Sure you have to make some hard choices and some of those choices are not going to be pleasant when you have allowed yourself to be on a merry go round of spending etc.
When you stop and look at your life with your loved ones you can have fun making your life better and thriftier.
Case in Point: When I was a little lad I kept hearing the words “It’s better to give than to receive and I had no idea what that meant. As I grew older and became adult with a job I was able to bless others with things they needed. Some of the items I gave them were out of my own closets and effort. The look on their face was enough payment for me and I give G-D all the praise and glory.
The financial etc. weights come off when you lessen your materialism and make your life thriftier. Sometimes it is hard to give up items you have so long and that you have an attachment to it. But remember the goal is to make you life more thrifty and in the end more productive and when you don’t have to work to death to have a life then you start to realize that “Hey I am having fun living Thrifty in Carolina and Beyond.

Living Thrifty Doesn’t Mean Living Cheap!
Living Thrifty Doesn’t Mean Living Cheap!
Many people think that to live thrifty means you must live cheap or buy cheap, this is so far from the truth.
Case in point: buying from Communist China via a “dollar store” You are buying an item(s) cheap but the longevity of the product life is of a short duration.
I have bought two $1 flashlights at a local dollar store and I am on my way to buy a third. I use the flashlight to walk the dog as well as other places I need to use it in an old house that a lamp is not close by. I have or will have bought three flashlights in three weeks. That is over the year I have to buy fifty two flashlights in the length of the year. That is “Not!” living thrifty. You can buy a high quality flashlight a whole lot cheaper and most certainly a lot thriftier.
Due to news reports we are now seeing that china is trying to kill us off as well as our beloved pets.
The point of all this is when you go to purchase something, maybe you shouldn’t buy from China but look at USA or other country products.
Living thrifty means looking wisely at the purchase(s) you make, as well as not to buy/do without certain things decisions that you can do without certain things at this time.
I hope you all a Thrifty life that Yeshua/Jesus promised in John 10:10 if you have any questions or comments you and email me at wmsblog”AT”yahoo.com

Thrifty Living in Carolina & Beyond: When not to spend money!
Living thrifty people knows when to spend money and when not to spend money. Here is an example when to "Not to spend money."
Friends of mine are on vacation and where else do they go but to Myrtle Beach in July. This is not the “Thriftest” time to go to Myrtle Beach and stay in a hotel etc. As any, Carolinian knows that you wait until after Labor Day to stay at MB. They admitted that it would cost them an arm and a leg and maybe a vital organ or three. I like Myrtle Beach in September when the weather is still nice.

When staying at Myrtle Beach to me the best and thriftiest place to go is the Huntington Beach State Park and camp out. True it is a way from all the action but the area has many sites to see.
I was a surrogate father on a Royal Rangers’ Father and son weekend. It was a cool November but the full moon was out as we took the boys on a beach walk at night were a grand and inspirational time. So save up your pennies and plan a time at Myrtle Beach and maybe even the Huntington Beach in September or after Labor Day till Memorial Day.
State Park, you will be glad you did when you waited until September. You may call (843) 237-4440 for further information. If this phone number is wrong then please inform me. To go to their website Click Here.
A note of sadness, the Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park is no more, in my opinions thanks to greed and over development. Myrtle Beach is just not the same as it used to be years ago. If you want to see, what Myrtle Beach used to look like then go to Kill Devil Hill/Kitty Hawk, North Carolina a great place to go. Thrifty Living in Carolina & Beyond - Are we having fun yet? Wow Columbia!!!
Thrifty Living in Carolina & Beyond - Are we having fun yet? Wow Columbia!!!
It’s summer time in South Carolina and without breaking the bank and going to Carowinds there is many fun things one can do close to home. Since Columbia is in the middle of the state and does have some public transportation – take the bus.
South Carolina flag graphic provided free by Pictures provided free by http://www.123rf.com/
CCMS Picture provided free by Christ Central Mission Station.

With the State House there (although they are out of session) it’s a great way to see politics up close and it’s free. You can then go to Wendy’s up the hill for a low cost meal but there are also other food options in the area.
For free or low cost music it’s good to check with the “liturgical” churches as they sometimes have a classical concert as well as free tours.

For free food and a look at real life for some you can dine at a soup kitchen and mingle with those that life has given them a rough turn. In the end you can maybe see it’s a place for you to volunteer or get an idea how to help others. Christ Central Mission Station (803) 765-1998 2401 Main St, Columbia, SC 29201 who feed at 12 Noon Monday – Friday. Christ Central founded by Jimmy Jones could always use a good volunteer as well as funds. Christ Central is a unique mission better than a “church” whose sole purpose is to help those who truly need help. (Ones that the “church” won’t give real help to.)
When schmoozing around don’t look like a tourist with camera around your neck and a tourist attitude. Do a web search and check “The State” newspaper http://www.thestate.com/ for ideas. You don’t have to spend a lot to have a great day out and maybe if you get out of the comfort of your car, life will be more real to you and those who are with you. Bank of America is right down town do you have access to an ATM if you need.
In West Columbia there is a neat used book store called Ed's Editions who has a neat little website for further info go to http://www.edseditions.com/ although their website does not have a lot of content but a stop will inform you of what is there but you can always call them at 803-791-8002 or toll-free 1-866-791-8002.
There are also other good used book stores in Columbia area and I found them in Yahoo link here to see.
When in Columbia you got to go to Riverbanks Zoo. http://www.riverbanks.org/ The best way to see the Zoo is an annual pass and thriftiest way to go. You could go every day for less than a day’s pay.
https://tickets.riverbanks.org/mainstore.asp# and is a cool way to spend the day or even volunteer http://www.riverbanks.org/jointeam/volunteer.shtml.
As for a good unique place to eat is Bangkok Restaurant at 7509-H Garners Ferry Rd.
Columbia, SC 29209 Phone: (803) 776-2993 I have eaten their many times and if you like Thai food this is a great place to go. Tell them WebmasterSanta sent you.
For other places in Columbia to go check out Columbia Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau at http://www.columbiacvb.com/
This has not been a complete list of all the things you can do in the Columbia area and is not meant to but a framework to get you the reader to think of other options to see and do that is not the high traffic norm, but are thrifty.
If you are not in the Columbia area ask around for thrifty places to visit in your community like here in Orangeburg with the Rose Garden at Edisto Memorial Garden etc. a great place to visit and read a book or just feed the ducks.
Always when possible go with others for as always it’s safer to go in a group, know where you are going and be aware of your surroundings and those around you. Be safe and have Fun!
You can do web searches via http://www.GoldenChinaOnline.com as well as a place to check Carolina weather etc.

If you want to save money and make your money count more this blog is the one you need to read often.
If you want to save money and make your money count more this blog is the one you need to read often.

Today’s issue is looking at your cost and expenses. It doest take a rocket scientist to figure out the more you not spend the more money you will have. The point is to make wise choices that will maybe curtail some of your lifestyle choices but in the end it makes your lifestyle more pleasant and even lucrative.
Its amazing how one mother trying to find a healthier organic food for her baby started her own organic baby food company.
When your choice is to do with less fancy and more “real” it’s not hard to do, but be warned there are some personal sacrifices to deal with.
First the car. Your means of transportation and your statement as an American that says I am free to go when I want and where I want to go 24/7. Cars are a great necessity but in actually it’s more of a convience than a real necessity most of the day.
If the government ever lets us grow and manufacture our own fuel the cost of developing alternative fuel will drastically reduce, but until then here is some suggestions.

Try carpooling you save if 2 or more people in one car then you do with individual cars going to the same direction.
Here in Orangeburg there is no bus system so that is not an option but if we gang up on the likes of Rep. Jerry Govan that has re-buffed my bus suggestion every time it could work. With limited parking in the downtown area etc. carpool and bus service is an ideal solution.
If people would share the cost of gas etc. carpool will save money for the pool. If one then has an extra car that they don’t use then can either sell the car of donate it to a mission like the one listed below.
Bicycles are a great way to get around but then again the designers or the street and politicians i.e. Rep. Jerry Govan, Senator Matthews, and Rep Cobb-Hunter doesn’t seem to understand that we need bike lanes and real sidewalks.

If one has good balance a moped is another great way to save money.
The Oaks a retirement community in Orangeburg, SC is trying to use used cooking oil in their small go to town and nightly security vehicles as like a bio-diesel fuel. (Of course if The Oaks ever realizes that fried foods is bad for older people their goes the car and cooking oil fuel solution – Lol) but with tons of places here in Orangeburg that oil fry foods the source is there.
One staff member at South Carolina University (SCSU) during the fiasco lockdown during the “democratic Debate just simply walked to work every day that week.
There’re viable choices to re-tool your transportation it’s a matter of choice and wise planning. Maybe that run to the store for a soda pop will get you to plan your trips better and in the end better.
Thanks and Shalom, till next time – “making wise choices to be Thrifty minded is a great way to go.”™2007 by Rabbi Dale
